Items You Might Not Want To Take With You During A Residential Move

When planning a move to a new residence, you will have to pack up all of your things in a way that ensures they make it to your new place without issue. But a move to a new house or an apartment is also an opportunity to reduce some of the clutter in your life. There are a number of things you might have in your apartment or house right now that you don't actively use. There may be other items that will be a hassle for even professional residential movers to get onto the truck and into your new place. Use this move as a chance to push reset on your personal belongings and regain some organization over your life. Here are some items you might not want to take with you during your upcoming move.

Books, DVDs and Other Collections

Do you have a bookshelf that's gathered dust because you don't ever read books again after you finish them? Maybe you switched to an e-reader years ago but still have bulky hardcovers lying around? If not books, most people at least have some old DVDs or a CD collection that they don't use anymore in the age of streaming. Have a garage sale, or find another way to get rid of the things you aren't likely to use again.

Food in Your Pantry

When's the last time you looked in the very back of your pantry? This move is a good excuse to clean out your kitchen as well. You might have some goods in the pantry that will not hold up well if they have to sit in a hot moving trailer for hours while moving across the state or across the country. Take some snacks with you for the day of the move, but plan on buying new groceries when you get to your new home.

Large, Heavy, or Awkward Items

Do you have a pool table, but you don't play pool much these days? Or maybe you have a piano that your child used to play ages ago, but it's been decades since anyone has taken a piano lesson. Or maybe you have an old mattress or two that are stacked on top of each other in the attic. Your residence likely has a variety of things that are just too big, too heavy, or too awkward to move to a new residence. Sell this stuff off, or hire a junk removal company before the residential movers show up for the rest of your things.
