1. chap. 25, The Synod of Whitby (Streanaeschalch) is the culmination of the controversy and in some ways the cenerpiece of Bede's history. Who was there, how did the arguments proceed, and how did the synod conclude the question? How did this affect later English history?

2. chap. 30 The people relapse into paganism during plague--where have you seen this before in earlier histories of Greece and Rome?

3. What is the purpose of the miracles in Bede's history? Why do they figure so prominently? How does this connect with Eusebius's use of the theme of martyrdom throughout his own history?
