Compare and contrast the lives of Antony and Brutus, using illustrations drawn from Plutarch's accounts, in respect to the following.
- Their youth and
young manhood, and what one might have expected from them in later life given
such a beginning.
- How they rose to
power and achieved the public stature that was theirs.
- Where their
sympathies lay in the great power struggles: were they conservative/republican
or progressive/imperial? Did they side with the Cicero/Cato crowd or
Caesar's?
- How they were viewed
by the Romans generally, and for what reasons.
- Their involvement in
Caesar's death.
- Their role in the
power struggles that followed Caesar's death.
- The circumstances
and manner of their deaths.
- What were the
strengths/virtues and weaknesses/vices of each?
