Compare and contrast the lives of Antony and Brutus, using illustrations drawn from Plutarch's accounts, in respect to the following.

  1. Their youth and young manhood, and what one might have expected from them in later life given such a beginning.
  2. How they rose to power and achieved the public stature that was theirs.
  3. Where their sympathies lay in the great power struggles: were they conservative/republican or progressive/imperial? Did they side with the Cicero/Cato crowd or Caesar's?
  4. How they were viewed by the Romans generally, and for what reasons.
  5. Their involvement in Caesar's death.
  6. Their role in the power struggles that followed Caesar's death.
  7. The circumstances and manner of their deaths.
  8. What were the strengths/virtues and weaknesses/vices of each?
